Yes, I'm way behind the times!) where you talked about the research you did for these books, and how the Troubles were about classism and voting rights, and had I not already read your books (and loved them to pieces), that podcast and this interview would have gotten me reading. I'm a sucker for buckets of historical research and magical realism.Andrea Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07289862046162890751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-85401908572500277702012-07-20T14:25:22.525-07:002012-07-20T14:25:22.525-07:00Thanks, Stina! Modern eras are definitely more tricky - no-one cares so much about what happened 400 years ago!Anne Lylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10081266463465731929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-4874799922667978692012-07-20T10:50:12.602-07:002012-07-20T10:50:12.602-07:00I'm very glad you feel that way. :)I'm very glad you feel that way. :)Stina Leichthttp://csleicht.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-18129670210027477772012-07-20T10:49:10.894-07:002012-07-20T10:49:10.894-07:00I felt the era had certain parallels with what is ...I felt the era had certain parallels with what is going on in the U.S., politically. It's a subject which most Americans know very little to nothing at all. Also, I kept seeing the word "terrorist" being used over and over. I wanted to take a closer look at that word because I feel Americans should. Our news is so... pathetically self-absorbed these days. I wanted to encourage Americans to delve deeper into the subject.

One of the reasons why OB&H has a more magical realism bent is because I wanted to show respect to the war and everyone that suffered as a result of it. I didn't wish to be flip about any of it. So, the tone of the first book and it's emphasis is what it is.Stina Leichthttp://csleicht.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-73300470570846983362012-07-20T08:35:06.876-07:002012-07-20T08:35:06.876-07:00I think the transition to a more Fey and Fallen or...I think the transition to a more Fey and Fallen oriented book was a good transition. (I know that one of the reasons I hesitated before settling on Elizabethan England for my own series was the religious tension, which I didn't want to detract from the bigger cultural conflict between humans and skraylings.)Anne Lylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10081266463465731929noreply@blogger.com
