I don't really like books that have such a narrow appreciation window. I'm not saying every book will necessarily be timeless, but books written through such focused lenses often disappoint me. And as something who just barely makes it into the Napster generation, there doesn't seem to be enough of a reason for me to check this one out.Meytal Radzinskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15805413335735169073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-78673540414704257542012-07-03T16:13:15.697-07:002012-07-03T16:13:15.697-07:00Good to know -- I am the same age as you and had a...Good to know -- I am the same age as you and had a similar freshman year Napster/WinAmp experience, so it sounds like a good bet...Joelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17756263900553410305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-26176347259344700102012-07-02T18:37:15.870-07:002012-07-02T18:37:15.870-07:00It certainly does. The whole digital music scene of the late 90's/early 2000's probably wasn't a seminal moment for you and wouldn't carry the same impact. However, Reid does a great job of explaining a lot of the history. So while the jokes may not resonate the same way, they'll be understandable. If that makes sense?Justinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18030992882575439420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-65224987774215174772012-07-02T16:13:17.970-07:002012-07-02T16:13:17.970-07:00I could not for the life of me find much to enjoy ...I could not for the life of me find much to enjoy in Redshirts, which is a shame since I quite enjoyed Old Man's War. I suspect this to be the fact that it so heavily relies on the reader's knowledge of source material (ie Star Trek) and without that knowledge, the book, in my opinion, is difficult to enjoy. Would you say that not being versed in the internet music revolution/copyright law would hinder enjoyment of this novel?Sassy Stevehttp://sassysteve.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5978497880525976810.post-64508258161046210962012-07-02T12:55:39.205-07:002012-07-02T12:55:39.205-07:00Humor is very subjective, and I certainly didn'...Humor is very subjective, and I certainly didn't laugh at any of your excerpted bits, but you enthusiasm still makes me willing to give this one a shot.Joelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17756263900553410305noreply@blogger.com
